At Oscar's Wish Foundation, we are deeply aware that the recent media coverage surrounding the Ockenden Report, the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust maternity review & the Amos Report due tomorrow, as well as the information currently being shared across the media, may feel overwhelming, distressing and deeply personal for many individuals and families across Sussex.
We hear you.
As a charity that exists to support anyone affected by the loss of a baby before, during or shortly after birth, we want you to know one thing above all else:
We are here for you.
For the past 11 years, our purpose has remained unchanged. Oscar's Wish Foundation was created from devastating, life changing, lived experience, with the aim of ensuring that no family has to face the heartbreak of baby loss alone.
Our commitment continues to be one of compassion, understanding and unwavering support for every person affected by the death of a baby.
We recognise that the publication of these reports and the conversations surrounding them may bring back painful memories, unanswered questions, renewed grief or emotions that feel difficult to process. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, your feelings are valid, and you do not have to carry them alone.
If you feel that now is the time to reach out, please know that our support is available in a number of ways.
You are warmly welcomed into our online support groups, where you will find a safe, understanding and non-judgemental space to connect with others who truly understand.
Our “Remember Me” Workshops and upcoming community events also offer gentle, supportive environments where families can remember, reflect and spend time with others who share similar experiences.
For those who prefer to engage more quietly, we hope our social media channels continue to provide a place of comfort, kindness and reassurance.
We remain committed to only sharing thoughtful, sensitive and supportive content, creating a safe space where you can simply be, without expectation or judgement.
Today, and in the days ahead, our thoughts are with every family whose life has been touched by baby loss and with all those who are affected by the findings of these reports across Sussex.
We send our deepest love, heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to you all.
Please remember that you are not alone.
With love and compassion,
The Trustees and Team
Oscar's Wish Foundation
