When a new baby is expected in a family, most young children will be looking forward to the birth as much as everyone else. Lots of excitement, conversations, planning and preparation. But when the devastating news means that the baby or babies have very sadly died, finding the words and ways to support children can feel worrying.
Having to explain the loss of an expected baby brother or sister is an incredibly hard thing to do and we are here to support you.
We understand that explaining miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death to children can feel like a minefield of questions.
Worries and concerns of getting it right, what not to say or how to say it & how to support children and families in the best possible way.
Have you supported a child through the days, weeks and months after their baby sibling(s) has died? We truly hope that you never need to but it is always important to be prepared.
It can feel like a minefield for practitioners and settings and we want to help streamline this for you.
You can find yourself asking-
♥️Where do I look for resources?
♥️What kind of things might help?
♥️How do I start the conversation?
By signing up for our funded Sibling Support resource pack- You are pledging to provide the best support to those children that you possibly can.
You are pledging to reach out to us and ask any questions or guidance, signposting or support. There is more information in the pack.
Our Resource pack contains beautifully written books that have been written with care, understanding and the child or sibling at the heart of each book.
There are some helpful FAQ and explanations of how to answer these kinds of questions with honesty and authenticity.
The next packs that we have available are for the following types of settings in Sussex (On a first come first served basis)-
*Primary schools
*Children's Centre's
*Nurseries
*Family Hubs
*Pre-Schools
We hope to make more funded packs available in the near future to enable us to offer them to the wider child focused environments.
These resources have been funded by the team at Osborne's Law and we thank them hugely for their support.
Please note that to be eligible, your setting must be based in Sussex and fall into one of the categories above.
